High School English: American Literature & Composition

High School English: Literature & Composition is an engaging online course designed to strengthen students’ skills in literary analysis, critical thinking, discussion, and academic writing through the study of classic literature.
Throughout each 10-week semester, students will read and analyze selected novels, participate in guided book studies and discussions, and complete composition assignments inspired by the literature. Students will move beyond simply understanding what happens in a story to examining important themes, characters, symbolism, historical context, and the choices authors make in communicating their ideas.

Literature & Book Studies
Students will engage deeply with each novel through guided reading, discussion, vocabulary, comprehension activities, and literary analysis. Students will learn to support their ideas with evidence from the text while developing thoughtful interpretations of literature.
Composition & Writing
Writing instruction is integrated directly with the literature. Students will complete compositions connected to the novels while developing skills in:

Course Schedule
The course meets online on Tuesday evenings for 10 weeks during the fall semester and 10 weeks during the spring semester.
Tuition: $400 per semester
Students may enroll by semester.
This course provides high school students with a supportive and academically challenging environment where they can experience great literature, develop stronger writing skills, and grow into thoughtful, confident readers and writers.
High School World Literature & Composition

High School World Literature & Composition is an engaging online course designed to help students explore significant works of literature while strengthening their skills in literary analysis, critical thinking, discussion, and academic writing.
Throughout each 10-week semester, students will read and analyze selected works of literature, participate in guided book studies and discussions, and complete composition assignments connected to their reading. Students will examine how authors use characters, setting, conflict, symbolism, and theme to explore timeless questions about human nature, society, courage, justice, sacrifice, and responsibility.

Literature & Book Studies
Students will engage deeply with each work through guided reading, discussion, vocabulary, comprehension activities, and literary analysis. Particular attention will be given to understanding each work within its historical and cultural context while encouraging students to think critically about the ideas presented by the author.
Students will practice identifying themes, analyzing characters, interpreting symbolism, recognizing literary devices, and supporting their ideas with evidence from the text.
Composition & Writing
